Do’s and Do Not’s from the Academy Awards

Last Night’s Academy Awards red carpet saw a surprising number of celebs wearing white. Oscar White? Shocking.

Here is NYK Wedding’s list of white dress Do’s and Do Not’s that we learned from the 2012 Oscars.

DO: Go for the Regal look.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford

Gwyneth Paltrow looked stately and majestic, in her caped Tom Ford gown. For a bride who wants to make a huge impact, this look reads regal! This ultra modern silhouette will leave quite the impression with your guests and groom.

Do Not: Wear Awkwardly Placed Laser Cuts

Shailene Woodley in Valentino Couture

Fresh face, Shailene Woodley looked awkward and age inappropriate in this Laser cut/ shoulder padded gown from Valentino. This look is NOT to be repeated under any circumstance.

Do: Choose a mermaid gown to highlight your curves

Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji

Miss Spencer looked absolutely breathtaking in her white and silver sequin gown. The cinched waist dress showed off a beautiful hour glass shape on a REAL woman; showing brides that yes, women of different shapes and sizes can be glamazons.

Do Not: Come dressed as Lisbeth Salender

Rooney Mara in Givenchy

Rooney Mara  has taken method acting to an all time high. All of 2012 award season she has appeared dressed as her famous character, Lisbeth Salender. We would like to see Ms. Mara pack on a few pounds and veer away from the super severe look of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”. Brides, never attend your wedding dressed as a story book character.

Cheers! Accessorize with Glamour, Accessorize with NYK!

3 Trends, 1 dress

This fashion week we saw a slew of trends and were left wondering how they could possibly fit into a bridal look.

After careful consideration and internet crawling NYK has come up with a look that encapsulates everything you could aspire toward from Fall/Winter 2012 fashion week, translated into a wedding gown.

This gorgeous J. Mendel number comes from Gilt Group.

The first, most easily translated trend we noticed was “All white”; all over the runways there were head to toe White looks.

The second trend we hope you will consider is an embellished sheer. On our example dress the sheer fabric is embellished with unfinished edges, super feminine ruching around the midsection and a bias cut layer skirt.

The final and most difficult to translate trend is the mile high slit. Not the most typical bridal look, this trend is for the daring and confident bride.

We recommend completing this lovely bridal gown with a piece of statement jewelry from our collection.

True Romance

Fresh off Valentine’s Day, people are chasing romance. To fulfill your longing here is NYK’s list of 3 ways to bring and extra pop romance into your wedding.

1. Candles

Incorporate candles into your wedding ceremony in creative and unexpected ways. Instead of lighting a path with candles, up light the perimeter of the room and the altar for a dramatic and unique look.

2. Add an antique

Make a nod toward a more romantic time period; take inspiration from the Victorian era or Gone with the wind. For a winter wedding choose a dress that includes brocade fabric, and for spring/summer go with this yummy antique style hair piece from NYK.

3. Floral print

For an added dash of romance forgo the usual monotone white/ivory/ecru dress and choose a floral pastel. For inspiration check out this amazing creation from Carolina Herrera circa 2010.

Happy Wedding Day Blair Waldorf!

Who watched the biggest royal wedding since Will and Kate? You know we did! For us the episode ended with a whimper, not a gasp; with Blair taking part in a royal sham! (not unusual for Monaco)

In honor of Princess Blair’s fiasco we’re including a link to 12 more of TV’s most ill advised weddings, thanks flavorwire!
