The Best of British Bridal

Finally we can bring you the highlights from the 2013 British Bridal exhibition – the UK’s biggest and best bridal event.

Emerging key trends for 2014 include luxury, glamour and some very creative interpretations of vintage. An interesting play on fabrics was also evident this year, with an array of patterns and prints, laser-cut fabrics, embroidered lace motifs and opulent bead work – reinventing the classics with a contemporary twist.

Gold showed up in many of the bridal collections (including Donna Salado’s), along with a strong neutral colour palate of; blush, ash grey, pastel greens, mint and touches of Wedgwood blue – seen across footwear, bridal wear and bridesmaid dresses.

Pearls played a very prominent role, both on headdresses and veils, not to mention the elegant detailing on tailored jackets and wide satin collars for a very elegant finish.

But the most desirable trend on the catwalks was undoubtedly the back detailing, which unveiled the potential for daring keyholes down to the waist, along with deep and perfectly-draped cowls. These plunging necklines, seen in collections such as Tony Mentel’s, have led the way for statement accessories to really shine…

Bridal Trend: Mad Men

Hey all of you aspiring Betty Drapers (and Joans and Peggys)!

Last Night Mad Men returned to the airwaves for its fifth season. We find quintessential mad man, Don Draper engaged to the doe eyed Megan. 60’s New York Mod wedding? Yes, please! Here’s hoping that this season includes a Don Draper wedding.

In the mean time here is some 60’s Mod inspiration for your own Mad Men themed bridal look.

A Mad Men theme is all about presenting your most elegant and glamorous self. Think sleek hair, clean lines and bold patterns.

This dress is exactly what Don Draper’s bride would want to wear for her big day. To accessorize choose a simple strand of pearls such as NYK Wedding’s Bessie.

3 Trends, 1 dress

This fashion week we saw a slew of trends and were left wondering how they could possibly fit into a bridal look.

After careful consideration and internet crawling NYK has come up with a look that encapsulates everything you could aspire toward from Fall/Winter 2012 fashion week, translated into a wedding gown.

This gorgeous J. Mendel number comes from Gilt Group.

The first, most easily translated trend we noticed was “All white”; all over the runways there were head to toe White looks.

The second trend we hope you will consider is an embellished sheer. On our example dress the sheer fabric is embellished with unfinished edges, super feminine ruching around the midsection and a bias cut layer skirt.

The final and most difficult to translate trend is the mile high slit. Not the most typical bridal look, this trend is for the daring and confident bride.

We recommend completing this lovely bridal gown with a piece of statement jewelry from our collection.
